Wisdom from Pooh

I have forever been a lover of Winnie the Pooh and his band of misfits. When I was younger it was due to the imagery that drew me into the land of Christopher Robin — if only for a short while.

As I got older and had children of my own I shared my love of Pooh, Christopher Robin, Piglet, Rabbit, Eeyore, Kanga, Roo, and of course, Tiger, too! Along the way of reading Pooh books to my kids I discovered how smart the misfits really were and realized they had figured out things that most of us have not, or have, but forgot.

Over the past 10 months, I found myself returning to Pooh for advice to keep me on course as our world collapsed.

This year in particular, we all had to believe in ourselves first, before we could help others navigate the path and along the way we discovered our true resilience.

There were many times I was very worried about the unknown, as I am sure many of you were, too.

Then I realized, as did Piglet, that worrying would not prevent things from happening and I can only control what I can as the tree was on its own course.

In the end, my friends, family, and hope would be my comfort and strength.

Once I allowed the knowledge of Pooh to help guide me through the forest, I realized that everyday still arrived and it was up to me to keep putting one foot in front of the other. As new discoveries cannot be made if I allowed the worry and the past to cloud the new path I must forge — for me, my team, family, and friends!

So I share this last bit of advice, which I have gleaned from Pooh, this too will pass. If we hold tight to the things we love (honey for some), keep our head down and allow time to pass, the sun will arrive, the bees will begin buzzing and revealing to us where to find the honey. Although, as always, it is our job to figure out how to get to the honey, avoid the bees, and find joy in our quests — large or small.

Remember it is up to you to create your daily destiny.

“What day is it?” asked Pooh
“TODAY” said Piglet

“Ah”, said Pooh, “my favorite day”

Happy Holidays to you all and may your time be peaceful, reflective, and filled with sweetness!
