Goal Setting — A Must Do!

What do you want to be doing in 10 years? How about in two years? How about at the end of the week?

What do you want to be doing in 10 years? How about in two years? How about at the end of the week?

Whether your are looking to start a company, are a small business owner, a manager, an employee, an intern, a student, or whatever your role may be, there is no limit to how big of a future you envision for yourself or your company. Setting goals personal or business related is an important part of achieving a level of success you desire.

Goals give you framework to work around and they help you stay focused on what you really want to achieve. Here are some tips when setting goals:

Define your goals and make them specific.
It’s easier to achieve goals that you know exactly what you are striving for.

Be realistic.
Make sure that it’s possible to achieve the goals you set. If you set a goal that you have no hope of achieving, you will get discouraged.

Write down your goals.
This makes your goals more realistic and tangible, and there’s no way to forget about it.

Set short-term and long-term goals and a time-frame you would like to achieve these goals.
Your goals must have a deadline. Deadlines will give you a sense of urgency.

Short term goals could include: gain 10 new followers on Facebook this month, get 15 new restaurant customers this week, buy a gym membership, save $500 dollars this month, or event learn a new skill.

Long term goals could include: get your business on the first page of Google within the year, redesign your website, double your clients within the next five years, eat better, get your masters degree, or event buy a house.

Goals vary for every type of person, job or business – set goals that make sense for you. In the end, decide what is most important to you and what you want to achieve, how you are going to do it, and commit to it. Give yourself reminders to keep you on track and always review your goals and change them as time goes on if need be.

Also, don’t forget to reward yourself for reaching your goals. Whether it be to treat yourself to a fancy dinner, mini-vacation or to purchase that new computer or product you have been eyeing. Small or big – reward yourself for a job well done!

Happy goal setting!
