#Hashtags 101

The hashtag was originally used on Twitter but has spread to other social media networks such as Facebook, Instagram, Google + and Pinterest. It helps content on social media be searched and discovered. When used correctly hashtags are a powerful tool.

Here are a few rules when using a hashtag for your business:

  • Don’t make it too confusing (keep it simple and not too long)
  • Use proper keywords that are relevant
  • Put them properly in a post (use longer hashtags at the end of your post)
  • No spaces
  • Don’t hashtag everything in your post (2-3 hashtags per post maximum)

Use these tips and start using hashtags!

Did you know?

When bees change jobs, they change their brain chemistry. Scout bees, which search for new sources of food, are wired for adventure. Soldier bees work as security guards their whole life. One percent of all middle-aged bees become undertakers. Regular honeybees -- which perform multiple jobs in their lifetime -- will change their brain chemistry before taking up a new gig.
