When was the last time you bought something because the package design was unique or interesting? Myself, it was a bottle of Calypso Lemonade. I was in the need for some lemonade, so why not go for the safe Minute Maid that I know I’ll like? Because the interesting looking label on the strawberry lemonade made the drink that much more intriguing, and I had to try it.
Whether it’s strawberry lemonade, a box of tea, or toothpaste, package design is everywhere. A good design will sell to the consumer and give them the information they need — nutritional information or easy to read dimensions on that TV you’re hoping will fit in your living room. But, sometimes, we don’t consciously think about it.
The next time you’re at the grocery store (sorry, don’t mean to keep going on about food, it’s just the easiest place to do this), take a look at the other bottles or boxes next to the item you’re about to grab. Take a moment to consciously appreciate the package design. Or maybe try something new because of the design, like the Delika sauces. I don’t know about you, but I would give them a try — but maybe that’s the designer in me :).
